H1N1 League Policy

 Game Cancellation Due to H1N1

The League recognizes that there will be situations in which a substantial number of team members may be absent from a game or games with very short notice, due to illness resulting from contracting the flu virus or showing signs of infectious disease or virus, and that it will not be possible to ice a reasonable team.

The League does not want players who are becoming ill, are ill or are recovering from being ill to be put in any position of having to or feeling they have to participate in a scheduled game.

From the League's perspective, reasonable is defined as being a situation in which there would be less than 10 skaters and 1 goalie available to start the game, including pick-ups, as a result of flu-related absenteeism.

Accordingly, it will be the LLFHL's policy in those situations that the game may be cancelled following the same procedure as for weather related postponement.

Teams are referred to Section 11 – Cancellation Rules for details.

As with the weather cancellations, the League is making the assumption that teams cancelling are doing so for legitimate reasons and not simply to avoid playing a game in which several of their top players may be missing for other reasons such as exams, family commitments, injuries.  If it is found out that any team has violated the Honour system associated with this policy, the Executive will investigate and, if warranted, apply appropriate penalties as per the provisions of Rule 11 a) through e).

Pick up provisions will remain as per Section 7.

Please note the LLFHL will not extend the regular or play-off season to accommodate any game cancellations and the associated reschedules. Teams must complete their regular season schedule and/or playoff round(s) by the due dates stipulated at the start of the season.

Thank you
